
A comprehensive course consisting of: classroom (didactic), 90 hrs.; skills lab, 24 hrs; clinical (hospital observation), 10 hrs; and field (ambulance ride-along), 8 hrs. The curriculum is based on the NREMT and 1995 U.S. DOT guidelines for EMT training, and Title 22 for the State of California.
EMT-Basic classes are open to the public. This class is taught in an accelerated format over 7 weeks. Class meets Monday through Thursday evenings, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Minimum class size = 15 students.
Admission Prerequisites:

Students must be 18 years of age or older
Students must posses U.S. Citizenship or equivalent I. D. and a Social Security Number
Students must provide a copy of their High School Diploma, Certificate of Completion or GED
Provide a copy of a current American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer CPR card, or equivalent CPR card. Please contact us if you need help obtaining a current card.
Provide a copy of a valid Driver’s License, State issued Identification Card or other Government issued Photographic Identification
Successful completion of the Health Occupation Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) with a minimum score of 61 at the student's cost of $30. If the student has taken the HOBET at another institution and the score is at or above the national accepted minimum score of 61, they may supply proof of that score in lieu of sitting for the exam at EMSTA, Inc.
The student is responsible for providing a criminal background check. It can obtained through www.certifiedbackground.com for their cost of $20 or more. Sign on as a STUDENT and use the package code number MS33. |
Provide copy of current medical insurance coverage (policy or wallet card). Students must maintain medical insurance throughout the EMT-Basic training course. Low cost short-term coverage is available on line, e.g., www.ehealthinsurance.com
It is recommended that you have the following:
Annual tuberculosis screening
Positive titer to rubella and rubeola or vaccination against same or a physician’s statement of disease concerning rubella and rubeola (measles and mumps) or vaccination against same
Varicella (chicken pox) immunity
Tetanus immunization within the past 10 years
Vaccine/immunity Hepatitis B is recommended

Students who successfully pass the course and Skills Testing will be eligible to take the NREMT Certification Exam. Upon completion and successfully passing the Certification Exam, students will be issued an EMT-1 certification card by the appropriate certifying agency. Our courses have been approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE), California State EMSA, San Diego County LEMSA, the California Office of State Fire Marshal, and the NREMT. |
